The current NIH rankings show that UCSF Neurology is number one nationally among departments of neurology at US medical schools. This ranking does not take into account the NIH support to our faculty at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease or the Gallo Center.
According to US World and News Report's Best Hospitals list for 2014-15, UCSF Medical Center is ranked for neurology and neurosurgery as #1 in the San Francisco metro area, #1 in the state, and #5 nationally. In pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital achieved a “superior” rating for following best practices, using advanced technology, nursing intensity and use of infection-preventing measures.
