UCSF Neurocritical Care and Stroke

The Department of Neurology at UCSF administers neurocritical care and stroke clinical services at two UCSF premier hospitals. At Moffitt Hospital- our University hospital- the UCSF Neurovascular Service specializes in Neurocritical Care of brain vascular disorders including aneurysm, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and stroke. The Neurocritical Care Program at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) provides neurocritical care to patients with neurotrauma and stroke. Both of these services are attended by highly trained neurointensivists (neurologists with critical care training) within the UCSF Department of Neurology.

Both services maintain active outpatient clinics providing consultation for patients with stroke, TIA, vascular malformations, and follow-up for patients discharged from either hospital.

At Moffitt Hospital, the UCSF Stroke Clinic specializes in first and second opinion consultation about any neurovascular condition. Clinic patients can benefit from advanced diagnostic testing within the University Hospital system. Patients interested in an appointment should follow this link.

Fellowship Program

UCSF offers two fellowships relevant to stroke and neurocritical care. The Vascular Neurology fellowship seeks to train leaders in stroke research and clinical care through a 1-2 year fellowship leading to subspecialty board certification in vascular neurology. UCSF also offers an advanced fellowship in Neurocritical Care whereby fellows train for 2 years and are eligible for board certification in neurocritical care.
