Director, SFGH Neurocritical Care Service

Dr. Hemphill is director of the San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) Neurocritical Care Service. He is a neurointensivist with speciality interest in head injury and intracranial hemorrhage. SFGH is the San Francisco County trauma center where patients with significant neurotrama are treated, in addition to anyone in proximity who has a neurological emergency.

Dr. Hemphill is expert in stroke, intracranial hemorrhage (including subarachnod hemorrhage) and sees patients as well in the outpatient clinic at SFGH..

Dr. Hemphill's research interests include

  • Intracranial Hemorrhage
  • Head injury
  • CT perfusion imaging of the brain
