I was born in Denver, Colorado in 1974 and moved to Houston, Texas in 1993. At that time, I attended the University of Texas at Austin and completed a B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in general Biology. I also served as a system and network administrator for UT's Institute for Computational and Engineering Sciences for my entire undergraduate and graduate careers. Following undergraduate school, I enrolled in the Ph.D. program for Molecular Biology at UT where I studied the effects of chronic alcohol administration and subsequent withdrawal on brain gene expression levels in mice. I completed my degree requirements in October 2005 and received my Ph.D. in December 2005. In November 2005, I began my Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCSF under the mentorship of Dr. Raymond A. Swanson at the San Francisco VA Medical Center where I remain at the present time.

Research Interests

My research interests involve dicovering the mechanisms by which cell death occurs in the prevalent neurodegenerative diseases of our era. Specifically, I am studing Alzheimer's disease, mechanisms potentially related to Parkinson's disease and generalized mechanisms for neuronal cell death in aging mouse models.
