If you or someone you know is currently hospitalized and wishes to transfer care to UCSF, have the attending physician for the patient call the UCSF transfer center at 415-353-9166.
If you do not know who the patient's attending physician is, please ask the nurse caring for the patient to contact our transfer center. UCSF physicians are not able to accept a patient in transfer without speaking with the referring physician first.
Many of the patients we treat in the hospital are transferred to us from hospitals across the region and throughout the country. Our neurohospitalist and neurovascular (stroke) services care for a wide range of patients with common and difficult-to-diagnose neurologic conditions including stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage (often from a ruptured aneurysm), encephalitis, seizures, dementia, meningitis, multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and spinal cord disorders. We are experienced in all neurologic disorders that require intensive care.
For referring physicians: Our neurology physicians are available for consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be reached for consultation or transfer requests via our transfer center at 415-353-9166.
