UCSF Laboratories Needed to Host Students
UCSF’s CURE summer research program is seeking UCSF laboratories to host one or more students for an 8-week research experience. The CURE program is a paid opportunity for current high school juniors (rising seniors) and community college students at City College of San Francisco. Students are placed in UCSF labs and mentored by faculty, post-docs, and graduate students. The program runs from June 16 through August 8, 2025. Students will work in their host labs Monday through Thursday, and on Fridays they attend CURE college and career readiness courses.
The UCSF Center for Science, Education, and Outreach also hosts students from the Oakland Unified School District for the summer; the OUSD summer internships run for 5 weeks, Monday through Thursday, with a minimum of 32 hours worked during that time. On Fridays, students attend classes at their respective high schools.
If your laboratory is interested in hosting one of the CURE or OUSD students this summer, please contact Fabiola DeAguinaga, Pipeline Programs Coordinator, at fabiola.deaguinaga@ucsf.edu.

UCSF's Science & Health Education Partnership (SEP)
SEP has several excellent programs that our faculty have participated in, such as the summer Internship Program and the fall Bay Area Science Festival.
Dr. Jeanne Paz and Dr. Scott Zamvil have hosted interns through the Internship Program.
Each program has a different start date and other parameters. Read more on the SEP website to find a program that works for you.
Our colleagues in the Department of Neurological Surgery have established a partnership with SF Oasis for Girls that began in 2017. Yesenia Velasquez coordinates activities for three cohorts per year at UCSF.
Mentorship hosts are needed for interns to visit your lab, center, or professional space (e.g. office, conference room, educational space). This is a voluntary 1-2 hour commitment on one day for a single session during the internship.
The UCSF Office of Diversity & Outreach has a Diversity Hub with over 260 programs. The list is searchable - give it a spin: https://diversity.ucsf.edu/hub-program/
SEP's programs are listed here, along with many others.
